its a pretty obvious conflict of interest. Russia needs to have at least neutral relations to its neighbor and cant afford to lose a trading partner + have a hostile military at its borders. There was no concessions and only further escalation so they invaded. Now you can hold onto the "NO CONCESSIONS" attitude and kill off the entirety of ukraine to further your own countries geopolitical interests or you can have the human perspective of "end the war and give concessions". Every country has to care about not souring relations with its neighbors. It took multiple bombings and coups to make ukraine hostile towards russia. It is an idiotic approach to have.
