over exertion of influence building will eventually bite china in the ass the same way it did the US, regardless of if they circumvent the interventionalism and warmonger profiteering which defined historiclal US nationbuilding.
You have to consider especially as the actual people behind china's theorycrafting are essentially reaganite neocons posing behind political aesthetics - the only difference is that China is in its economic era where it's seeing an economic boom similar to the US did during the 80s, and they're focused a lot of resources on domestic growth. People can bring up things like China's "views on human rights" but i guarantee you those "views" are what the US would candidly possess in the <80s regardless of if they would openly say it. Much of China's current trajectory honestly replicates much of the US's trajectory maybe half a century ago.
Much of the entire idea of what currently define China's theorycrafting is attempting to pick up where they think the US failed - people like Xi literally had their political development defined by spending time in America and learning about concepts like the American Dream. Virtually anything else about them ideologically is largely almost pseudo-ritualistic, like them praising communism the same way the US pays lipservice to religion without it really infesting deep into political structure.
The US and China for as much as they create tensions with each other are really near intertwined entities; there's a symbiotic relationship between the US (or at least in the abstract, the US economy) and China - China's beef with the US comes more from our administration and government, the tension is there, it's not with the underlying economy or nation; that underbelly facilitates so much of what allows China's economy to exist to begin with that they couldn't have beef with that even if they wanted to.

its insane people really think sanctions hurt the most powerful in a country or a government in any way shape or form and not just essentially destroy the livelihoods and wellbeings of millions of innocent people. like Iran, Syria, and Cuba are perhaps the most sanctioned countries in the world and with Iran & Syria on top of all these sanctions they also have literal US-funded civil wars and sectarian conflict meant to topple their leadership, and it hasn't done literally jack s*** to effect the regimes there to think that would work in Russia when it hasn't worked in f***ing Iran is bizarre

i dont want beef with china but like u said were wrapped up in so much history. the fact that we even work so well together whilst parroting such opposing philosophies (christianity and communism) is actually probably one of the greatest things to happen for human civilization. but the way the chinese government treats its people domestically is enough for me to prefer american influence (or at least what american influence signifies today) id certainly love to be able to live in a world in which america can remove itself from all its global interventions. but at the end of the day if we’re not there to hold down our interests globally what stops china and russia from one day setting their sights on us? and sure i agree the war mongering exists, but to deny both china and russia’s interest in weakening and delegitimizing america’s influence around the world would be an ahistorical suggestion imo

tensions dont have to be as high as they are, sure, but we didnt get here simply cuz neocons wanna sell military contracts uk?

If China suddenly embargoed the US because of some political condition, leading to a shortage of goods, do you think Americans would argue to submit to China??

The answer is no, and the answer remains no for any country on earth. Sanctions do nothing but deprive ordinary people of goods they deserve
