Joe Jigga BidenExcept, Eastern Europe was far behind the west until after world war 2 when they became much closer to the west under socialism.
Most of Eastern Europe was under serfdom just over 100 years ago.
Eastern Europe woulda got completely annihilated by the Nazis if not for the USSRs power and infrastructure developed via rapid industrialization, who would've stopped them
no free market could develop that fast and react to an invasion in the way the USSR did with a centralized economy which allowed them to transport industry/factories away from their borders with ease

Missing out that the 30s and early 40s were a phenomenal decade and a half of evolution before the Soviets came in
Industrialization would have happened anyway let’s be honest, most of Eastern Europe were already pretty active in it and they weren’t gonna stop there

Even prior to the Nazi rape of Eastern Europe the areas that were not formerly German or Austrian were vastly underdeveloped and it was a big problem for the governments of interwar Eastern European countries.
The grandchildren of Serfs had access to healthcare and industry thanks to the USSR.
It took 500 years after feudalism for the same in Western Europe.
