Genuine question, how would that have helped? NATO is obviously flawed, but without the US it would have lost a significant amount of its defense leverage and that would lead me to guess that Putin would have been emboldened to begin this strategy earlier. Is the benefit just us not being obligated to intervene in any way? Or am I missing a broader context?

1st off you didn't answer my question if you are for sending military aid to Ukraine
also NATO was created for security against the USSR so dissolving it would make no sense because Russia was still strong enough to invade any ex Soviet nation even in the 90s,
as you said it yourself, none of the Eastern European countries were helped when the union fell and none of them are waging war today except Russia
This is not about economy, Russia was already exporting to Europe with ease, these sanctions were only making their economy worse now, Putin doesn't care about his people
also, you are saying NATO is biting themselves in the ass for not helping a country which they had nuclear tensions with for 40 years
