DETAILS ON R-TRUTH's WWE RELEASE
On Sunday morning, we were all shocked to hear that #RTruth is being released from the #WWE. Technically, they are just not renewing his contract when it expires soon, so he could technically still appear on WWE programming until then, but it's unlikely.
Some thought it was a joke at first. Maybe Truth got the April Fools Day mixed up and thought that fell on June 1st this year instead, right? Wrong, sadly. He is really being let go.
The question many have is, well, why would WWE release #RonKillings after a 17-year career when he clearly does not even need to wrestle anymore to be a great asset to the company?

There are some new details, and I'll be honest, you're not going to like it. This is going to anger most fans of professional wrestling, as it rightfully should.

WHY WWE RELEASED TRUTH:
The main reason WWE is letting Truth go is, first, due to the company's decision to go in a younger direction with talent.
Second, anyone over a specific age needs to be able to provide a solid return on investment, or ROI, that is high enough to warrant keeping them.
ROI for younger talent is not going to be as high right away, which WWE is aware of, so TKO does not judge them as harshly as they do veterans.
If the #TKOGroup does not feel your ROI is high enough, then you're out. Regardless of how long you've been in the company or how well-liked you are.
It's all a business move in their eyes, and the Superstars are nothing more than play pieces or business investments that can be discarded at any time.

That said, everyone's ROI is being judged, and sometimes unfairly so, especially in the case of Truth.

TRUTH's ROI ISSUE:
When it comes to Truth specifically, they were disappointed that he was not able to bring in better numbers for Saturday Night's Main Event, according to a few reports.
The fact is that Ron was incredibly over with the fans that night, and he wasn't even the one who was supposed to bring in a huge house or live audience at home. If anyone was expected to do that, it's his opponent, #JohnCena. They also had a World Heavyweight Title match on the same card.
Keep in mind that getting a live audience to watch is incredibly hard for most shows. Unless it's a sport like football or basketball, live numbers aren't what they used to be, thanks to streaming platforms.
Making this decision about Truth when he is not responsible for any of the issues is incredibly stupid. On top of that, Ron is beloved but won't ever be a main event talent in WWE again.

He's 52 years old and fully aware of that, so WWE usually books him in segments or promos with matches being mostly for TV rather than live events.

TKO LIKELY WANTED TO REMOVE TRUTH FOR A WHILE:
What's so peculiar is that Truth was allowed to be featured in a main event match with Cena at SNME, and his Truth/Cena merchandise ended up being WWE's top seller for the entire week thus far.
The very fact that his merchandise with the #JudgmentDay and the Cena/Truth merch sells so well clearly proves that R-Truth has a nice ROI. Especially when it comes to his merch. WWE just has to give him merch for people to buy, and the fans buy it because it's always terrific.
Truth is also always easy to write for because it allows writers to literally create insane scenarios that Truth can bring to life flawlessly. Now, Truth is not around to use for such things, especially for comedic purposes. WWE always needs a good comedy act, and Truth has excelled in that role.

TKO higher-ups were clearly always planning to remove Truth, regardless of how over he is and how much merchandise people purchased of his. Otherwise, something like jumping to the #1 spot in merch would make them think twice about letting him go.

BEHIND THE SCENES DRAMA:
When people within WWE heard of Truth being let go soon, many were shocked. In fact, some who spoke to media outlets said that it was shocking but also "ruthless" of TKO to cut someone like Truth.

Several have taken to social media to share how much they love Truth and stories about their time with him. The Miz, Karrion Kross, and several others have taken part so far. We could see more tomorrow!

PERSONALITY HIRE:
What TKO seems to be unaware of is the "personality hire."
This is a person who might not excel in any particular area, but helps to boost morale and prevents everyone from losing their composure.
Their interpersonal skills are so great that they help to regulate a positive work environment. R-Truth is literally this for WWE Superstars and has been for the past 17 years.
We literally, as fans, created memes and videos claiming that Truth is "a national treasure." Even the other wrestlers believe this and love having him around the locker room.

Having someone like Truth in the locker room is helpful for everyone, which is why everyone loves Ron Killings in WWE. He is considered one of the most genuine human beings in WWE and, on top of that, he has developed solid relationships with damn near everyone. Especially with his childhood hero, John Cena.

NO LEGENDS DEAL:
If anything, WWE could have offered him a Legends deal that would have allowed him to work on the Indies while still allowing him to appear on WWE programming occasionally.
Several people I spoke with personally said that even if WWE feels Truth cannot be someone they pay the same as a full-time WWE Superstar any longer, offering him a Legends deal would be the next best thing.
It keeps him with WWE without restricting him too much, and still pays him a pretty good rate. Truth might not be the standard type of person to get one of those, but clearly, he has earned that.
