I mean my understanding is minimal but I have a good ear, and know basic chords, chord progressions, scales, etc.
Just enough to get by to produce some instrumentals.

Ah word okay, yeah I mean theory is a required class for me for like 3 years so I'm familiar with everything you mentioned they just made me dig deeper into it lol. Stuff like the different forms and genres of classical music and understanding how keys work functionally and all that fun stuff haha

I do understand. And i also make beats. The action that you just described is how you're supposed to sample using a midi keyboard.

I listen to almost every genre and timeline of music, sometimes classical music is great to get ideas from.
