was a melodrama truther a while back but damn pure heroine is just way more interesting
whats the consensus on this
Melodrama is more ambitious because it’s trying to be the definitive pop album of its time. The lyrics are more broad to match the mania of young love.
But I don’t think it totally nails it. Much prefer the unique, raw point of view on Pure Heroine.
Off topic but still can't believe how disappointing solar power was
It doesn’t even have enough goodwill for people to call it a cult classic. Just mostly cringe.

lorde sxn still tryna convince themselves that dogshit was good
no <3
unless you're in that angsty special lil mood then yea
"angsty special lil mood" describes melodrama better than pure heroine

tbf pure heroine is definietly more mellow in its delivery of said message, but it is super angsty
like melodrama uses escapism within the means of describing early adult partying and meaningless romantic encounters that you overthink and it's very blatant about that
while PH is very much like... "i'm 15 and I feel like me and my friends are the only people in our town that are cool and we gotta escape this dull life" but its described in very clever ways with the imagery she uses on songs like buzzcut season, team, and glory and gore (almost dystopian kinda)

If that's what she was going for than yeah it missed the mark

whole album is her talking about this euphoric rush but like she thinks a s***ty ending is preordained and the feelings not gonna last long

i wouldn’t really call that edgy
the album seems like more of her embracing her adulthood and acknowledging that heartbreak and change comes with this fun period in her life, i think thats a pretty balanced and mature perspective for that age
