can you be one of the best lyricists when you only ever write about one topic?

yeah cos through one topic you can touch on a lot of other things too

also, when it comes to actual lyrical skill outside of having more varied content, what other skills would Pusha use by talking about something else?

he talks about the same thing but in a lot of different ways, using loads of techniques.

Real bars are the ILL bars
These scars are the only real proof they couldn’t kill gods
My coke hand still sketchin out my memoirs
What I did to door panels on them Windstars
Gem stars left cuts on the dinner plate
It’s new stash spots the AC don’t just ventilate

And the verse still gets better smh

Well, it's time for him to prove it if that's the case. Pusha has been making the same song over and over again throughout his entire career

    you never stop losing huh

He’s a master at it though. I would argue that nobody has mastered an individual theme like Pusha has. He makes d*** bars into poetry.

Undoubtedly, Push is so technically skilled as a rapper and he’s proved he can rap about various subject matter.

You really haven’t listened to much push/clipse if you think every verse is about coke

it's also the way he uses talking about coke to talk about everything else

he talks about d**** in a way that touches on lots of people's experiences too, not just his perspective as a dealer. if you think about the massive impact d**** has on everything on society, given he's talking about d**** from a varied perspective, saying he's 'just talking about coke' is way too simplistic.

Your rap songs is all tryin' my patience
Them prices ain't real without inflation
I done flew it, I done grew it, been a conduit

See through it, neck, igloo it
Habla en español, I "y tu" it

  • Aug 8, 2020

Most of what Wayne talks about is d****, sex, and how fly he is. Pusha raps about selling d****, sex, and how fly he is. Wayne in my top 3 I always felt like this was a super weirdo argument I feel like only Drake stans make

There’s no denying that. If you’re not able to distinguish his subject matters in his lines you’re probably not fit for a discussion about lyricism

Dont get me wrong i cant stand drake

But if the general consensus in this thread defines the bar for “best lyricist in hip hop ever”, then thats a low f***ing bar

...one of... Wayne talks about the same few things but he’s so good at it idk I personally don’t mind a jack of all trades master of none but there’s certain rappers that are just the very very best in their lane and Pushas bars and delivery are next level
