Poverty is a complex issue

It's by definition relative, even standards of absolute poverty change

When one is raised out of absolute poverty but still has to work so many hours in the day to be able to take part in their societies cultural events, to what extent is that really that much better?

Poverty is also by definition relative not to the time but the society you live in, the poverty line is different in different countries, this is called "relative poverty". And this is for good reason. It takes a different amount of resources to take part in the society you live in in a dignified manner.

This is why any meaningful definition of poverty has to be relative imo, you can't let it be separate from the society you're in.
