What’s with fans against this whole “trap” approach to his recent music

Personally I’m enjoying it cause for years now the moody sad music isn’t what I want to hear from Papa 100% of the time and this newer style has been a joy

His mixtape work was fun to listen to prior to the MOTM series & why I fell in love with him in the first place. Yeah sure it doesn’t sound like the stuff he does now but from 08-09 the sound of music wasn’t like what we hear today

Like yes of course his darker stuff is equally if not more impactful than the other side but I found this switch up very refreshing & a burst of energy similar to A Kid Named Cudi days

You can bring up Travis but Cudster’s s*** has more substance attached to it compared to the party staff Travis does (I love Trab so don’t think I’m hating)

Just want to hear some thoughts

I think some fans see Cudi's take on the current trap sound as selling out

Cudi is taking full advantage of the modern sound the way many aren’t. Trav is the only other one who is

Long as he keeps his signature sound I don’t mind it tbh but I guess he’ll flip flop between that for his fans so I’m expecting Entergalactic to be for us diehards which is nice

Yeah I can dig this, listening to MOTM3 never made me think “oh this isn’t cudi” it just sounded like he added his style on top of updated production that fits the current era but still different from others

    Exactly

Long as he does his thing the way he always does it’s fire

Cudi is a rare artist where he’ll never sell out. If he was I believe he would’ve done it a long time ago so I’m glad he’s always stayed true to himself no matter what

Can’t wait to hear what else he has for us

One thing I do wanna say is I think Cudi can push his sound further than he did on MOTM3

I say this because the music on MOTM3 is literally what we've been wanting Cudi to do since Indicud

So in a way it's like he was tardy to his own party, so I def wanna see Cudi expand more and push the boundaries as he always does

MOTM3 was really in a way to just give the ppl what they want, and it was a success

I think he was onto something with PP&DS but he stopped right after

    And what was that exactly?

    And what was that exactly?

A balance between him being honest about his struggles while also expressing the need to push forward. He evolved his sound from motm into new territory without sounding too derivative it just felt like we were getting a new cudi

Even though I joke about “trap cudi” I wouldn’t consider none of his recent stuff in that lane cause he’s not rapping about d*** dealing & other themes associated with that

Sound wise I always liked his flow on Ask About Me, I always expected him to go that route if he ever went more trap sounding but instead we got this robotic flow lol

Hmmm I didn’t really think his recent flows have been robotic, but yeah he really doesn’t need auto tune his voice is good enough

I’m glad he doesn’t overdue it like most artists, if it’s a little flair I don’t mind

Then again it’s probably because prior to MOTM3 we rarely heard it

Edit: actually I think I know what you’re talking about his monotone flow. I can see how it gets stale cause he usually has a lot more energy in his raps

Yea that’s it, I def prefer his more energetic flows, it seems like he’s using it again on his recent features though. I still f*** with MOTM 3 regardless
