I think a lot of people are willing to exploit other people’s wounds if they think it makes it easier for them to ascend the social hierarchy

For sure, but those are the people that "despise the wounded" and see them as weak, something to take advantage of

by embracing our wounds, we not only learn to recognize the opportunists, we also learn we don't have to take advantage of people to get where we want to go
