FMJ over 2001
FMJ over 2001
2001 and up are all 5’s to me
how can we truly rank them
But FMJ edges it out to me, the real flips I’d probably make are Strangelove and FMJ and Clockwork and 2001.
Rubik
Counting down the days until the Criterion boxset

FMJ always a little underwhelming compared to his other big classics.
I think Thin Red Line ruined war movies for me.

2001 is a smoother experience to me. FMJ has some amazing highs but it's a little more jumbled and inconsistent. The first act of FMJ is among my favorites in all of cinema tho
I want to do a ranking, but I haven't seen some of these in 10+ years and I'm sure my tastes have changed since then.
The Shining is a top 3 horror film for me, 2001 is a life-changer, Strangelove is one of my favorite comedies and Barry Lyndon has possibly the best cinematography of all time.
The Killing, Paths of Glory and Spartacus aren't films I return to, but they are excellent for their time and worth watching if you haven't already.
FMJ ends up somewhere in the middle tiers because I love the first half and am lukewarm on the second half.
I like the idea of A Clockwork Orange, but the aesthetic and overall experience makes me miserable in a way I don't personally enjoy. Same with Eyes Wide Shut. I haven't seen those in forever though and need to rewatch them.
Lolita is a total mess and I have nothing good to say about it, other than it's such a strange, tonally inept misfire that it occasionally swings back around to being funny.
Eyes Wide Shut for sure! Loved the lynchian vibes
Then watch Clockwork next. I guess it's the most similar of what you have left in terms of vibe
