Why do we have to belittle trap music man

because if we’re being completely honest, some belittle the overall genre

and i say that as someone that has genuinely seen it. lack of writing, lack of honing the craft, watering down vocal performances by masking with lazy autotune, lack of creativity, etc

some niggas dont even try to perform their records when recording, just have their engineers do the heavy lifting by punching in

It’d be better if he was actually bad

    He’s just painfully mediocre.

I'm still confused though because Future is still very much a part of the Kendrick/Drake/Cole class more than he's a part of the Thug/Travis class

Future was on the 2012 XXL Freshman lineup, one year after Kendrick was on it

Pluto dropped before GKMC and had big songs on it in Turn On The Lights and Tony Montana. (Tony even dropped in 2011 and Drake hopped on the remix that same year)

Overlapping years doesn't tell the whole story in this context. We know that what people wanted from rap changed in the mid 2010's. That's why back before it was "the big 3" and was "top 5 of the blog era", back when Wale and Big Sean were in that conversation, Future wasn't in it. That's not a knock on him, it's just an accurate portrayal of what things were and what they are now.

By the time 50 landed Jay Em and Nas already were established goats and had already dropped multiple classics and hits Fif was huge but it came and went quick it was a 2 year run

This, I see this all the time, people get those timelines mixed up badly and think they all ran at the same time. Anything post 90s pre-2005 gets lumped into 1 year almost.

There’s a lot of would’ve should’ve couldas to be passed around s*** big and PAC run would have blocked Hov and Em from running the game if they ain’t die it is what it is

My point being the run wasn't the thing that was focused on

I think that’s what makes him one of the worst. It’s not that the music is so painfully unlistenable but it’s the fact he has never done a single thing in his life to progress the art form or challenge anyone. It’s literally the lowest common denominator of past sounds that’s been lightly touched up to sound as inoffensive as possible. Theres zero personality to any aspect of his art, from the raps to the beats to the album concepts.

Atleast with 6ix9ine or 645ar or these other trash artists, they’re doing something that’s atleast risky, as unlistenable as it is. I appreciate that more than j Cole any day
