your talking about at worst 70 to 175 songs

not that i have any opinion just saying

That’s plenty of songs to judge lyrical abolity

the question you should all be asking is what is the definition of a unique word

personally i dont care i think the use of rare words is useless, meaning can generally be transfered thru common words. this s*** is basically just a measure of whos trying too hard

Unique as in not repeated. One word is only counted once

The average song has 200-500 words, you can assume that less than 75 percent of those are not repeated through out someone’s discography. So in reality the first 35,000 UNIQUE words are a pretty good measure of someone’s lyrical ability

You're a f***in idiot bro. If we looked at the first 35,000 UNIQUE words by every artist, we would have 35,000 unique words for everyone and this chart wouldn't mean f***ing jack s***

Bro what? It’s not that hard to understand. When the artists says a new word that that haven’t said before it gets counted once and never again. Whoever has the most of those is the most lyrical. Not very hard to understand.

Then an artist with a bigger catalog automatically has an advantage

That’s why they only count the first 35,000.

You said we should count n unique words for every artist, this would mean every artist has an equal number of unique words at n

Not if they don’t use the same words as each other? That’s why they’re labeled unique?

I understand what you’re saying but that’s not how this study was conducted. It specifically looks at how many different words are within those first 35,000

“first 35,000 lyrics” well this chart means nothing

one-word choruses are more common in rappers’ earlier careers, and a lot of rappers get more technically skilled as they age, so ofc the first 35k lyrics (which isn’t a lot tbh) are gonna look low. especially now that we’re in an age where rappers’ first tapes are publicly available, as opposed to how it used to be where demo tapes were given to the label & not released in that form
