Think I said it in the other HP thread when I rewatched them a month ago, but
1) David Yates did a much better job then I remember. Brought a lot of much needed nuance to it, and didn’t focus too much on packing everything in from the books (and I love the books way more than the movies).
2) Goblet of Fire did exactly the opposite of that. It tried doing what the first two movies did (doing everything from the books word for word and not leaving any room for nuance), except it was twice as long as the first two books. Special effects and set designs were amazing, but the actual film was super difficult to get through (and that’s my 3rd favorite book).
I’d rank the movies:
1) Order of the Phoenix
2) Deathly Hallows part 1
3) Prisoner of Azkaban
4) Half Blood Prince
5) Deathly Hallows part 2
6) Goblet of Fire
7) Sorcerers Stone
8) Chamber of Secrets
Books:
1) Half Blood Prince
2) Deathly Hallows
3) Goblet of Fire
4) Sorcerers Stone
5) Prisoner of Azkaban
6) Order of the Phoenix
7) Chamber of Secrets
My favorite is POA and for the most part, it’s a lot of other people’s favorite too (or at least near the top). Can anyone tell me why? I can’t really explain it but for some reason it’s my favorite out of all of them.
Prisoner of Azkaban was the best followed by the one where Sirius dies. Half Blood Prince I think.

Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite and then I watched it 3 months ago and it did not hold up

It’s got that nostalgic magic feel that the first two have, but also has the darkness the later films have without going overboard or feeling bland like some of the later ones sometimes get. His cinematographer’s incredible and makes the movie feel different from anything in the series before or after
It’s also adapting a top 2 book in the series and has the most distinctive director the series ever had. Love Columbus but his movies had kid movie energy (which was perfect for those first two) and Yates movies got so samey and grey sometimes. Cuaron had the best marriage of those styles IMO
half blood prince

Was gonna post exactly the same
I‘m still waiting for the Voldemort trilogy. His backstory in the HBP book was easily the best part. There‘s so much more they can pack into several movies / series, from the Gaunts and their backstory, his early years in Hogwarts, his mysterious years abroad after he finished school etc.
Half blood prince and order of the Phoenix underrated af

(i used to like the older ones the best but they aged kinda poorly as our attention spans grew shorter lol. movies are way too long and way too faithful to the books - and i’m a big fan of the books)
