fridge is empty rap fell off (thank Allah)
its near halfway the 20s and we're yet to have the decade's new defining trend
the sad fact that we have to accept as old heads is that rap is Pop music now
and a part of popular American culture
it’s not segmented into its own thing outside of awards shows
20 years ago Jack Harlow probably would’ve been a pop singer or frontman in a band
but he’s a rapper bc rap is what people view as part of mainstream music
Pop music by contrast doesn’t really have dominant sounds per se, it just seems to reflect the ecosystem as a whole
Yall just make up problems, do we need a dominant sound??
There’s like 5 sounds out rn at the same time. Pick one and stfu
All 5 of those sounds are bad honestly

What is a good sound/rap subgenre?
What is a good sound/rap subgenre?
Honestly most of them. Trap, boom bap, west coast, whatever. Those sounds just aren't done well anymore outside of legacy artists. New trap producers can't make hard-hitting drums - I was saying in another thread that snares have straight up disappeared fsr. New boom bap producers can't flip a sample creatively. And new rappers have no energy or charisma. Hip-hop is facing a competency crisis
