  • I been getting into the habit of listening to long hip hop interviews while I been going on long walks or cookin and s***. Wanna start a thread/twitter thread posting excerpts from some of my fav interviews with conversation points I think would be dope to discuss.

This whole interview definitely one of the best ones I’ve seen in totality in a long time but in the clip I posted he goes tf in on pretty much Trap Lore Rosses and No Jumper lol. And how their “fake worries” dont mean s*** if they aint trying to help out the lives of the people from that environment as outsiders that profit off of it.

@AmoryBlain @YoungNastyShawty @browser @proper @Brave @edumist if anything think yall would be interested in the interview. Yall consistently be making poignant discussion points itt (even if i dont agree all the time lol)

he's not problematic he's just a corny white redditor to me. the question in op is an interesting one and mavi obviously an interesting guy so i may or may not tap in

  • The problem with these media figures is that they clearly show you what it is about the culture they "report" on that captivates them, and it's never positive.

The sensationalism is what they're a fan of, not Hip Hop itself.

thought you was gon say he was type jordan peterson.

He was chill the whole interview but yeah i highly suggest tapping in. You can tell mavi is well read.

im not listening to a volksgeist interview

as a German that name rubs me all the way wrong lol like it's literal nazi terminology

I dunno if dude realizes that probably just likes it bc it sounds "deep" (pretentious)

but luckily in that clip it's just Mavi speaking

this is a really sick concept and format tho @op proud to be yr first like and follow 🫡

as an interviewer I love when ppl rly engage w what is said and find good quotes.

also defs agree w Mavi that it is a problem especially in hip-hop when ppl don't have any sense for or even interest in the bigger topics underlying the culture. that's something I realized pretty quickly after starting to establish a platform like "damn, this is a lot of responsibility".

like beginning w who you even pick to interview etc, do you contribute to non-male artists always getting overlooked, check your bias engaging w a very white-biased music canon, etc etc

I know u said wrong thread i just deleted it @TuxedoMask

But to answer your point, it is true they really are more interested in the sensationalism than the hip hop culture itself.

If these neighborhoods/rappers didnt have all this violence and beef i wonder would these cacs even have a platform to begin with?

I know no jumper started off a bit more “decent” at the beginning giving shine to the young rappers

U make a good point, i think these folks wanna have their cake and eat it too. The platform without the responsibility that goes into it.

Black media plays into your last point too. I think sometimes ppl with a platform need to decide if a certain guest is worth the views or not.

I was DISGUSTED when Wallo and Gillie gave J Prince an interview to “speak his piece” about the whole Take situation. Thought it was both gross and just not even the time and place. Letting him threaten the ppl that lost they friend lost them a listener with me.

My bad I jumped out the window too soon and thought you meant you deleted my initial post

  • Of course one of my fav interviews, vince with ebro in the morning. I decided in response to the "beyonce tryna be white/selling out/playing the game" takes on both social media and IRL I wanted to discuss a point that I feel we don't really talk about...

Why is it that with black artists that we seem to be put in this box of "oh you making white people music" the moment you as an artist decide to step outside your comfort zone (and do an actually good job at it imo) or those "colors and patinas" that fit better for people our skin tone?

Admittedly, I say this as someone that used to dismiss a lot of "edm music" as white music when I was a lot younger (before I got put on to chicago house in high school). Do we lack an understanding of where coming from cause...we did make everything?
