What's up KTT fam, I haven't been on here in a minute, but I had to share this somewhere.
So I'm a music producer, and apart of my music is getting artists to rap over my beats for my projects. I'm working on another EP at the moment, and I reached out to Dessy Hinds for a feature. If you're not familiar with him, he's apart of the Pro Era collective that was pretty big in the earlier 2010s. I found his email and we started talking. I told him about my music and how I've been a fan of him since hearing him on the Pro Era tape, and that I would love to have a verse from him on my project. He said he would agree to it and that he would work around my budget. I thought great, he's someone I always admired for how talented he is at rapping. So I was excited to get him featured on my project, especially someone who grew up on their music.
After we agreed on the price, I sent him the money (huge mistake). After I told him the money was sent, he went completely silent on email. Keep in mind the whole time we've been talking, he was responding to me within a couple minutes. But once I told him the money was sent, completely stopped emailing back. This was on November 25th, and I haven't heard back from him since. I tried following up multiple times, but haven't heard a word from him at all.
It's been weeks now and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get a response from him. This is super disappointing considering he was apart of a collective I grew up on. I'm not sure what else to do on this. Should I call him out on social media? I don't really think it'll do anything.
Let me know what you guys think.
In the future start having people sign paperwork for the work you provide. Sometimes you have to learn this the hard way, unfortunately. I used to freelance motion graphic design and this would have saved me a lot of headache in the beginning. Also, I recommend removing your personal info from these pictures
Numerous of your favorite and now successful rappers are scammers, thieves, or audio terrorists, so nothing you can do about that, and no one's really gonna care either
Gotta take the L and keep it moving. Call him out if you wanna.
Maybe try charging back on your card if you can to get the money back, but aside from that you outta luck

Definitely something I'm going to consider moving forward. I've worked with other known artists in the underground scene like Blu, Skyzoo, and Che Noir and never ran into this issue. Thought this would be the same unfortunately :/
You've learned this lesson the hard way -- I've been in the same boat for more money
Take your L and move on tbh, nobody's gonna care about Dessy Hinds scamming you for $300
Keep it in mind next time

I'm gonna see if I could get the money back through Zelle if there's anyway. I don't think anyone would honestly care if I call him out on social media since he's not a super big artist. Might just take the L on this,
As someone who has had similar ish things happen
You kinda just have to take the L and forget about the $$$
It hurts but it is what it is
Now you know

explain how you "found" his email. it may have been a scam from whoever you got it from. Make sure you actually contacted the real Dessy HInds. Anyone can claim to be Dessy Hinds over a gmail account.

Through his personal account on Twitter/Soundcloud, as well as his main Twitter account being followed up ProEra members and mentioned in official ProEra tweets.
That sucks. Bro couldn’t just send a quick 16 it’s not like people are lining up for features from him

Hopefully it all works out some how
has he been private on twitter all along or did he just go private
He was private before I emailed him, but has been tweeting since.
