Crazy how more artists from 2010-2016 are still discussed and talked about regularly versus so much from 2017-2021 where they just come and go in weeks.
Remember Mario Judah? @999Wrld predicted that fall-off
i guarantee you that there's an equal amount of artists who fell off in both eras, it's just majority of people turn a blind eye to 2010-16 because it's an era that they grew up in and were more fond of. For every Mario Judah there's a Asher Roth or XV. It just seems more abundant because the internet has grown so much with the spread of social media.

man stfu
Tough question because....I mean look at Joe Budden, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, etc. They could drop an album overnight and it will get overlooked by everyone except their stans.
But they're still very relevant as hip hop icons(excluding Budden) and personalities.
Problem is a good portion of newer rappers lack a distinctive persona or personality so, when the music dries up, they fade away fast or they get attention in the worst ways possible like Tekashi and Pump.
