“I wanted to make an album that was equally colourful and treacherous and varied in its journey,” she says. “In a day, I can go through so many different emotions. Spending a lot of time in nature and learning to tap into my breath and my centre, I was guided by God, connecting to all this energy that my ancestry has harnessed for me. I was just tapping into that.” On Asha’s Awakening, Raveena creates a utopia where people can be their whole selves: one where religion can sit alongside other parts of identity that their traditional culture may not deem permissible. In Raveena’s case, this is Sikhism and queerness. “The album is almost like a thesis,” she says. “It’s everything I wanted to study in terms of the intersections of the east and west, and all the different points that they meet musically.”
secret is one of my favourite songs right now. I've never heard any of her other music, I should probably dive in
i just read the rest of her tweets about this, i feel her frustrations. i wonder what credit she's looking for exactly. what does "breaking into the mainstream" look like for her and what other artists in her lane is she comparing herself to.
if i can find clips of the ig live i'd be interested in hearing more.

suppose it means radio airplay, decent amounts of press, TV shows, good charting...
which is incredibly difficult and borderline impossible when your stuff isn't specifically for the general white population
south asians have an even lower purchase than east asians in media and we're only just now really seeing some breakthroughs in that case
i do empathize with her, but I hope she knows her stuff matters to those who listen
Good album but I can't help shake knowing WB had to shell out 50k or whatever to pay for a Vince Staples feature. But I guess a lot of music isn't as organic as I'd like to think it is.

pretty amazing! 4th time seeing her and it was great considering it was the first stop on the NA tour and her first time performing half of the songs live. Are you gonna catch her on tour?
*also was her 3rd show in 3 days, really putting in that work
