Certain elements in his music and the fact that he’s black of course. But it’s more so pop if anything

It’s obviously because of his skin

Also notice the people he collabs with

  • Sza is nearing superstar level if she delivers on her next album she’ll be on that pop star level right up there with Ariana, bts Nicki etc

They don’t be having no soul wit it. But it’s some white niggas who can get down tho

Is that the reason why our black artists that’s vocally/musically gifted pressured to water down their musicianship/delivery to appeal to those that maybe can’t relate ??

Example: most of the posters in here would be overwhelmed by a performance like this

    Compared to

That’s probably more palatable to their alternative/hiphop fusion tastes

Hell yea man the best RnB vocalist all came outta the church

It truly is the backbone to the culture in its entirety and made us stand out w/a certain identity that is intrinsically ours.. now that everything is blending into one big melting pot, some may be getting the prickling feeling like we’re losing our identity with ‘gentrification’ of hiphop, electronica, folk, EDM etc that brought in a whole new wave w/the rise of the internet in the early 10s

Nah not necessarily. Most people do it cause it’s just the current sound that’s hot. Modern RnB is basically melodic rapping with a bit more actual singing these days. Now performance is a whole different thing. Cause most these new RnB acts performances be mediocre. Your examples are decent but nothing I’ll be like “damnnnnnnnn” about

Wai.. that Jazmine Sullivan performance is jus ‘decent’ to you?
Damn, well if that’s the case I wonder what you actually consider impressive considering no one in the mainstream is displaying chops on that level like that👀

    Genuinely curious..

Well going off her peers currently then yes this is great far as vocal performance. My fault lol but I don’t really watch most of today’s RnB perform. Nobody just as entertaining as they used to be within the genre

Okay I was about to say.. lmao. Those vocals were CRAZY for any era/time period. The agility and placement of the ornamentation alone is above anything I’ve heard in the last 15-20 years lol

There are still a lot of great RnB live acts.. Jazmine, Brandy, gallant, Luke James, Tank, Beyonce etc their style just isn’t trendy.

That talent pool is just as brilliant as b4.. it’s just that the most gifted artists aren’t on anyone’s level.. I mean I wouldn’t listen to modern RnB acts either if I was stuck with the whisper brigade (summer, Ella, 6lack, Brent etc)

Reason:most white people do not f*** with R&B
