After the release of this new Kendrick, even though people seem to like it, there are a lot of people who seem to be underwhelmed. I like it but you hardly ever see this happen with Tyler. Whenever Tyler comes out with a new album the general consensus is that it’s an upgrade from his previous work. To me, this is because everything creatively is 100% him. Not only do you get an upgrade in lyricism but composition, arrangement, just all the sonic features are a step up because he self-produces. Even the music videos. You see this happen with other self-produced rappers like JPEGMAFIA as well. But furthermore, Tyler’s method of releasing an album once every two years is perfect. Gives him more than enough time to level up. It’s frequent enough where he is always relevant and on everyone’s minds but long enough where he can come back with a new improved sound and he also isn’t over saturating himself. Honestly Tyler should have produced something on the new Kendrick album.

I think your point are valid but that’s not why they are seen different

For starters, Kendrick’s debut to the masses was held a classic the moment it dropped. Tyler had Goblin on the other hand

For Kendrick it’s a constant game of keeping up what people expect from him since his discography is flawless

Tyler on the other hand came out the gate with a flawed album. This gives him way more room to grow & be noticed for it

remember that thread where Tyler was accused of just ripping off old songs (with mad receipts!) and some people said "you know it actually makes his music better for me"
