just started a salary job making $43,000 It's not a lot, especially for my area but I've worked my tail off for jobs that underpay for the last decade and it's nice to finally get some money.
I saw my paycheck in our pay system and it said $1,685.35. So I added it up and that comes out to 39,692.4 a year. I thought cool, they're gonna take out like3,300 for taxes and I'll take home $1,685.
Today I get my first check and my take home pay, after taxes is $1324. Which is very underwhelming and honestly depressing because it feels like "what's the point?"
I understand the tax portion but where is the extra 3,300 going? What am I not understanding, or has there been a mistake?

If nobody feels like clicking the link, he calculated based on two checks a month (24) when in reality he’s getting 26 checks a year. Lock thread
