Is it safe to say that he wouldn’t be going this hard for “other artists” if he wasn’t trapped in a Lil Yachty 360-type deal? He’s talking a lot about Drake but Drake is damn near independent with an unlimited budget. He can drop or do whatever he wants.

Kanye is a narcissist and it seems his motives always draw back to him/his situation.

Are his intentions driven by his own circumstance? Absolutely. Is he also realizing how f***ed up the situation is when he is going through it? Yes. He’s trying to bring the conversation to the forefront, how these young creatives do all the leg work and only get such a small portion of their effort and won’t even own it afterwards. He is trying to fight for better conditions for all of his contemporaries and that is praise worthy. Change starts with people speaking out.

This shouldn't result in a stan war, because what KanYe is doing isn't unique to him.

It's safe to say most people don't give a f*** about things unless they are personally affected.

Been like this for a minute Hedi...Ye been the same, selfish mf since the 2000s but the internet keeps acting like this dude has suddenly become the worst person on earth lol

When did music become politics? lol swear this current generation holds rappers and artist at a higher standard than politicians. Y'all would've cancelled 98% of artist pre 2000s lol

His fight is not selfless, only stans think it is.

Drake isn't damn near independent. He has licensing deal. If the labels started giving people back their masters Drake would benefit as well.

He’s not even in a bad deal or a 360 deal

Sure it feels self serving but he owns any masters he makes from this point forward

He just wants his old masters

  • Sep 19, 2020

I mean he doesn’t have to care
It took him 5 years in fashion to surpass what he’s done in music
The fact other artists are speaking up as well is important

    Drake IS damn near independent
He’s only licensing his music because it’s mutually beneficial he owns everything post Scorpion

But he would benefit from getting his old masters back definitely

But yeah it can come off as self centered but if some good comes out it, then why ya so against it and critical of it

You can’t look at Kanye in 2004 and say he didn’t give a s*** about other people

He thought he was a goat absolutely he’s egotistical as f*** but he gave a s*** about other people

Now everything he does feels like it’s to benefit himself

    Ya I know.
But he's partnered with them. He gets major label benefits without most of drawbacks.

Which is awesome but I would contest that isn't the same as independent. Or close.

I think it’s close in that he has absolutely 0 obligation to anyone

He’s not independent of the system but that’s by choice - he has the freedom

But there’s so many different definitions of what makes an artist independent that it’s hard to really class it
