Unlike other rap rock bands of the time, LP didn't make shock-value based macho music/aggro party rock songs like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, etc. If anything, LP was far more introspective and "emo" in comparison, which is why they lasted after the death of nu metal.

As a Mac fan people hated him he has the most infamous Pitchfork review ever and he admitted the hatred lead to his depression and eventual d*** addiction.
