Emulation does make it hard to have/want original hardware these days sadly but we are all a bit old and just wanting to recapture getting the 3D controller and nights on Saturn sometimes. I don’t have either of these now and I’m struggling to get a good price on them like I had them. Brother stole and sold them for weed money no doubt.
The middle ground is to hack the original hardware
Rg35xx literally comes with garlic as a setting option now lol miyoo makes you do the process on your own still
Only good thing they got on anbernic is miyoo has wifi installs
I installed it first time and never had to. I guess better options out there now but I still love mine

Which I did for that reason lol
Hacked Wii gets more playtime than my PS5
I want to hack my wifes wii but her mom has been hogging it since covid to play animal crossing (she still wont just buy a switch idgi)
if I ever get it back im hacking it, but my wife did give me her barely used 3ds xl and thats been fun to get pokemon on. Been trying to play through ultra sun physical, but stardew and pokemon pocket suck up the little free time I have lol

yeah the miyoo is great and installing onion is ez but the rg35xx just beat it out more recently as direct competitors. both are just old af, I couldnt imagine not having n64 at this point. too bad the stock OS for each is such garbage though
I love the small size of my rg28xx, and the horizontal layout is much better than youd guess. playing random psp games like tony hawk is nice as quick breaks from nuzlocke speed runs and stuff too. I never even installed custom firmware though I wanted to on it, its just less nessesary

yeah im already deep into emulation so why start collecting lol
It depends what you're playing tbh
Arcade hardware > emulation virtually every time if you have the hardware to back up (Crts or a retrotink, a supergun or a whole ass cabinet), and if you care about latency real hardware wins virtually every time but i understand not everyone can be assed to go through the trouble
My bro has a huge collection of retro consoles and huge library of games but tbh he rarely plays it, just collection purposes
Whereas I love my miyoo mini plus. Play it alot. The smaller screen is visually alot better than playing on a massive tv with all the glitchy graphics
Why not just use ur phone , it's not like its an fpga device ur phone probably has a better processor in it anyway

I've had emulators before on a phone but never used to play since u get distracted easily by notifications and just doing other s*** plus u need to plug a game controller to make for a good experience. This has the retro form factor, great OS whilst being cheap AF. I've got a Nvidia Shield hooked up to my TV with all the emulators and I never play it whereas I've finished games on this thing. Just my experience

Playability is the main factor for me in buy retro.
