It could just be that cancelling doesn’t really work in industries and places where the primary consumers don’t give a s*** about any of that. Nick Diaz in the UFC is a Mexican who has never really stopped saying the N word- no one in that world and consumer base of any skin color is gonna give a s*** about that. I think you’re right about your second option and there’s a lot more cultural divide between consumers- actors getting cancelled is indicative of the culture of their industry and consumer base. Makes sense, Hollywood is a liberal place and I imagine the majority of people who watch Oscar bait movies, etc are on that cancel wave. Not really the same for rapper consumer bases, which I imagine are younger, less interested in the moral positions of the musicians they listen to, maybe even more likely to not gaf about it themselves, etc.
