Been amazed and inspired by this since I was in elementary school. RIP

One of my old roommates had it on dvd. He was the frontman for a local band but also worked as a stage designer and lightning director for other local concerts. He was constantly gushing about how Depeche and Bauhaus were the only two things that inspired him to start doing that stuff himself

man if I got to watch and discover that for the first time again…1984-1997 Depeche Mode run is one of the best runs for any band ever. That concert film is one for the ages

That and the blu ray of NIN's Tension show, which might have the most insane lighting mechanics I've ever seen. Not to sidetrack discussion on DM, but the tech behind that NIN set design is insane. It's super close to an actual 3D light hologram in effect, and it was brand new tech that was engineered specifically to debut for that tour. I am also like 90% sure its where Kanye got the idea for the lighting effects in the festival Yeezus shows — but he obviously didn't use it in the insane way NIN did here

Yes that stage was beautiful. I think ye got a lot of his stage ideas from Trent around that time

The effect they use for the song at the 22min mark is mesmerizing. Imagine seeing that in person

DM and Anton so good together I got a Violator tattoo also commemorated seeing them in Prague which was the first city in Europe I ever visited. And my bestie got a matching one.

Insane and honestly we can’t even fully admire it unless we saw it in person just top level stuff
