A. JJ was kind of thrown into this
B. He co-wrote this with Chris f***ing Terrio if all people
C. The original director and screenwriter was Colin Treverrow

A subversion of the redemption trope would've been dope as s***. Imagine seeing Kylo constantly come close to being redeemed only for us to be reminded he's too far gone and he has to be killed off by Rey in the finale

At least Marvel movies have character development though. I honestly believe this is the main reason the trilogy started to spiral downward. The three main protagonist are empty with no depth.
