She is mostly ignored on here except when she’s being trashed but this album is better than most that will be named ITT
2010s
Oh s***, I didn’t see this thread before haha, I say
Frank, Weeknd, Miguel, and Jhene Aiko
This list and the HMs shows u how bad rnb been last decade. Most of the great people on that list don't really make rnb like that. And the ones that do barely have commerical success or even quality
Drake (lol): gotta admit he created a sound/lane
Frank Ocean: self explanatory
The Weeknd: HOB/Thursday/EOS era pretty much invented a genre that niggas take stylistic cues from to this day
Chris Brown or Miguel; Chris has the sales/traditional R&B career arc, Miguel probably has the edge quality wise
Wish I could genuinely say SZA or Jhene but I don't really listen to them
Honorable mentions include the following:
Janelle Monae
Solange
FKA Twigs
Bruno Mars
Anderson .Paak
PARTYNEXTDOOR

Tinashe did the same with her Mixtapes even a year before the Weeknd but didnt get the hype
Frank Ocean
Miguel
Blood Orange
Solange
FKA does not make R&B music. She works with Arca & Nicolas Jaar who are so far removed from that sound. & if we’re including her than she’s better than all the other females in op. None of these girls are touching LP1 & Magdalene in terms of scope and sound. But fr Lorde is more R&B than Twigs lmao

Lorde and FKA are both rnb
whenever anyone starts innovating they want to assign it another genre, I find it racist asf

FKA herself hates her music being labelled as RnB and she says its actually racist, you have it completely wrong

Oh man please not the racist card lol
How about the fact that Twigs is making glitched out electronic borderline avant garde soundscapes makes it ideal to call her more electronic than r&b. She even said it herself, she hates the term alt-r&b and she’s definitely not generic r&b. She makes and writes so differently than someone Tinashe it’s absurd to call them peers. Her music is more Arca than any of the girls in op.
"When I first released music and no one knew what I looked like, I would read comments like: 'I've never heard anything like this before, it's not in a genre and then my picture came out six months later, now she's an R&B singer. I share certain sonic threads with classical music; my song “Preface” is like a hymn. So let's talk about that. If I was white and blonde and said I went to church all the time, you'd be talking about the 'choral aspect'. But you're not talking about that because I'm a mixed-race girl from south London."
Album came out 2019
That's the end of the decade cuz, we have yet to see her long lasting influence from that album. Not even on some hater s*** cuz I like her but cmon
