F***ing in. Only seen The Lighthouse, and watched some interviews/lectures with Eggers but he seems like an amazing director.

Yes! Loved it. Smart dude
Bros creative process is so dope!
Fr man. Inspires me to do screenwriting tbh
Had no idea a script for Nosferatu is out there to read
Bruh, the old joint is by far the scariest s*** I’ve ever seen. Like it’s so off putting and depressing, couldn’t finish that lmao
Ik it’s common to compare this guy with Aster, but imo Eggers is much much more special. When it comes to dialogue he is inarguably one of the best we got

Meh I’d take Hereditary over Eggers films
He’s very good at cinematography and capturing an atmosphere but his films narratively almost always feel very stale and detached from any kind of a soul
I really just find myself being amazed at how things look and sound with eggers films but not much else. Hereditary was atleast genuinely an effective horror movie. I haven’t seen Midsommar yet though

It's creepy but you should follow it up with more films by that director, my goat Murnau trust me you never seen anything like his Faust or Last Laugh or Sunrise

Only downside with that is he takes a lot of dialogue from other people’s interviews and journals and stuff

Yessir. Wild s***.
But it’s the same way a lot of people will credit QT for his dialogue but even he’ll admit a lot of that just came from conversations he heard from other people

I’m sure everyone has heard amazing conversations before, but very rarely is anyone able to translate it to film and make it work
If QTs dialogue could be replicated, I’m sure far more filmmakers would do so

Well QT isn’t the only one with great dialogue. And it’s not that “oh people can’t translate it” it’s more so people don’t think “films” when they hear random conversations. I remember Isaiah Rashad spoke on this that his brain doesn’t stop that even when he’s conversing he’s trying to find song ideas. Even when he’s watching TV or reading his brain is constantly tryna find ideas.

Yeah but QT is the only one that has his conversations play out like they do
I’m sure every writer is influenced by conversations they hear from people irl but it’s pretty evident that nobody irl talks like how people talk in a Tarantino movie. You’d be more likely to find naturalistic dialogue from a Hong Song Soo or Linklater film but with Tarantino films, it’s pretty clear that the dialogue is very much inter played in the drama of the scene going on at all times.

Ari has NOTHING on Eggers
