rock actually has routes in spanish culture (spanish guitar) black culture (blues) and white culture (folk) -

Contributions came from America's black population, with an ancient heritage of oral storytelling through music of African origin, usually with strong rhythmic elements, with frequent use of "blue notes" and often using a "call and response" vocal pattern. *African music was modified through the experience of slavery, and through contact with white musical styles such as the folk ballad, and instruments, such as the Spanish guitar.*

so rock music actually came from a plethora of cultures. american rock obviously has heavy black influence. but as a whole genre, it’s a mixture, and only could have came about due to the mixing of styles from all over the world

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origins_of_rock_and_roll

to get to the point of OP, i think rock music will be come “cool” again due to it evolving / and mixing more influence. in my opinion, i think mixing hip hop musical styles will make rock music sound cool again. as we saw with Juice Wrld, who was obviously very inspired by the emo scene

and even XXX had a really good song with travis barker inspired by the alt rock scene

that’s where rock becomes cool again

I want black rock to follow the blues oriented/Jimi Hendrix type style than the Pop Rock/Blink 182 type s*** I’m hearing in a lot of these acts(I rather hear something new tbh),it’s probably all they know tho. It’s crazy but,Are You Experienced should still be referenced today because it blends blues/Rock so perfectly imo

OP i get u wanted to showcase this niche sound but u clearly hv no idea of what “rock” is. First of “rock” isnt a thing

Indie rock is still alive and well, it’s just evolved and includes more electronic sounds

Last i checked Tame impala, Men I trust, beach fossils, MGMT, the national, the marias, Beach House etc are all super popping bands

Black people are often credited for the origins of rock & roll but when people mention “rock” people often think to your legendary bands and dad rock. Not to take away from it but you gotta remember the roots of blues, swing and call/response in gospel and how that grew into rock

But sh!t it’s 2021 now and I think the sound is coming back stronger than ever and it’s being led by young kids, which makes it ever more exciting. There’s inspirations taken from rap, 90s alternative and more. the scene is way more exciting than where rap is at this point to me.

But Just wait for Kendrick to shift the zeitgeist with his rock album. instead of just a acoustic loop with some 808s. Or recording a tik tok walking in the park with some s***ty acapella and a guy with a ukulele (y’all know what I’m talking about)

    MGK is a follower

The Black Parade, Enema of the State, etc were getting their reappraisals before MGK decided to resurrect the music of his youth. Everything comes back around and pop-punk has been having another moment for a couple of years now.

I think my only issue with this new wave of pop punk is that it sounds just like it used to, doesn’t feel like there has been much innovation

that’s cool man but mgk had a rock album go number one and you act like he’s not personally under travis barkers wing much like any other artist who seems to want to enter the pop punk lane these days

Yeah? Olivia Rodrigo took a rock song to #1 by ripping off Paramore, not MGK.

We've all been listening to the same s***. Just takes the label executives a little longer to catch on.
