Gamers have become obsessed with number review scores and 10s. The game could be the greatest most detailed, graphically well designed world of all time but design and how the world reacts is what makes it a 10 or not. The mission design. Before V rockstar fans werent like this. After they got games getting 10s like V and RDR2 they became insufferable in that regard.
V didnt even deserve 10s lol. When San Andreas dropped people enjoyed the game and played it more than discussed accolades because it dropped same time as mgs3, half life 2, halo 2. It wasnt "this is the greatest game of all time this ends all of gaming". It was a good game.

That’s not true. RDR2 was probably their single most polarizing release since IV when it initially dropped. I remember so many people posting about the game being too glacial in pacing and fixating on the controls.
Never seen a game associated with the term “deadzones” as much as that game on release.

People had faults with IV regardless of reviews and it came out 2008 at a time where there were many other great games. When IV succeeded Rockstar fanbase wasnt at the superiority they are at now
MGS4 and Fallout 3 won game of the year many places. IV won some places. GTA IV still had a art style wasnt focused on hyper realism. The choices while there in the story worked only so much. Multiplayer was there but it was just the beginning
I was on gamespot forums for GTA IV people still talked about other games. No one was like "OMG GTA IV THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME THIS IS THE LAST GAME EVER "

it still got 10s even if the general public was mixed on it at launch. Still won goty. RDR1 has a lot of those same issues you list . So yes V fans playing RDR2 didnt instantly respect it but no I remember launch friends were all talking western and people were playing it. A minority of people not liking it because they didnt play previous games isnt what I am talking about
