indie rock got bare issues with that s*** but lets not forget how rappers have been for instance with rubi rose
All of this has always existed in the genre, but the weird thing is how now, the latter half of 2022, is when it becomes a talking point outside of the culture. I think half of it is the already growing pushback against hiphop’s fundamental problematic elements that traditionally would’ve been brushed away with “it’s just a reflection of culture…” under the guise of “but it’s OUR culture and we need to protect it, good and bad”. Idk if anyone else has noticed, but this generation doesn’t have the same sense of treating hiphop as sacred - there’s a vocal disdain for hiphop’s negativity that left black people branded oldheads or coons for calling out
There’s another half of this as well: this years discussions on gender wars/redpilling. And with hiphop being the biggest genre, it’s bound to be included in this discussion, and its misogynistic elements almost retrofitted to be a part of a recent trend (ie what the title of the article does)
What was more misogynistic about the albums this year? Is this the first time they have heard Drake or Future or Juicy J etc?
Drake only makes music for niggas who get p**** haha am I right? alpha male s***! top G!
What

It’s always them alt niggas who get hired by white companies to do hit pieces on black people
Yup. It's giving me

and tons of articles arent being written about it? idk what your point is
@saveme
So you can’t really say it’s been left in the past when it’s clearly still a huge issue lol

i dont think the article was saying that it's more so the straw that broke the camels back. they even acknowledge 90s rap in the article for instance.

Enormously real s*** I’m still frustrated by Rex Orange County already on the path to being forgiven
How is Hotline Bling misogynistic?
So nobody has ever seen their ex on Snapchat at a club and felt bad about it?
Doing things I taught you, gettin' nasty for someone else
You don't need no one else
You don't need nobody else, no
Why you never alone
Why you always touching road
Used to always stay at home, be a good girl
You was in the zone, yeah
You should just be yourself
Right now, you're someone else

It's the same creepy, possessive, condescending Drake that we all know and love

Were they not talking about lyrics in the music? Every corner of the music industry has s***pest in it
and tons of articles arent being written about it? idk what your point is
@saveme
so it’s not left in the past is it?
cmon bro don’t do this
there are so many misogynistic artists in that space, whether it be in music or outside of it
seems like rolling stone should focus on that if u ask me
Point out one to me. I know he's saying he wants the girl in the song to stay at home or be with him but where does it go beyond this sentiment?
Controlling what a woman can/can't do is problematic lol.
You’re still lame fam
you're an internet communist not about that action you're the lamest nigga here
And why is it always a hip hop problem but it’s never a rock music problem? Nobody out here writing think pieces about how big of creeps and pedos rock artists have been since the 50s and using it as a means to say THIS GENRE AS A WHOLE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
you only see hip hop get treated like this
Doing things I taught you, gettin' nasty for someone else
