How much u felt like telling ur partner to be a good girl/boy ?
Fair. But outside of that line, is the rest of the song not relatable at all?
Is the whole critique about that line?
misogyny in lyrics is not the same as sexual misconduct by musicians. its clearly a different topic even tho its related, its about the actual content of the artistic expression vs conduct of the musicians. and your original post i thought you were talking about the content of the music because that's what this thread is about
and do you really want me to post a list of articles talking about this topic? or do you just take my word for it lol. s*** like accusations to past musicians, current ones, s*** about the "indie" scene being male dominated, all that type of stuff has been all over pitchfork and rolling stone type publications for years now
im not really disagreeing with hip hop being unfairly singled out a lot of the time (for decades now) if thats what you were thinking
as long as we can find common ground on hip hop being singled out constantly over & over & over then that’s all that matters
it just feels like an attack on black art & quite frankly i hate it
And why is it always a hip hop problem but it’s never a rock music problem? Nobody out here writing think pieces about how big of creeps and pedos rock artists have been since the 50s and using it as a means to say THIS GENRE AS A WHOLE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
you only see hip hop get treated like this
You know exactly why just look at their skin color. It's obvious the top white executives that run these publications grew up with the old creeps and don't like the new stars that haven't done half the s*** their idols did but still have a racist grudge
Old rockstars who were actual creeps

New rockstars with a little misogyny
I’m not black so I’m not going to play into rolling stone’s slick bullshit here but regardless of genre, just keep the same energy. If you’re going to be drawing moral lines, keep them constant.
I can appreciate Future’s art, but I’m not about to act like he’s not playing a role at this point. And frankly I’d love to hear something new from him, but who am I to tell him to stop doing something that’s worked for a decade? If I’m not in the mood to hear it, I won’t listen. Easy as
You could shift the content of the music completely away from any of this and it will barely if at all have any affect on how people behave going forward. A lot of this is people who write about music or art generally for a living needing to justify the moral importance of what they write about. It’s also just the current trend of publications losing readership and needing hot button provocative topics to get easy clicks.
Of course hip hop got singled out for decades, look who was writing the articles and consider its relative outsider position in the mainstream back in the 80s and 90s
Now it gets singled out because it is the mainstream
I hate the comparison of Rock and Hip Hop because it's do disingenuous you Niggas know damn well rock didn't have nearly this many artist killing each other this way.
Niggas are literally murdering each other and then making record out of it thats beyond rock music or any genre.
oh my god

Leave bowie out of this NOW. 😡😡😡
I don't know, maybe I'm dumb or a closetted misogynist but I think every body has felt this way about someone they've recently been broken up with.
Both men and women.
It's a valid feeling, doesn't mean it still isn't misogynistic. Same way Marvins Room, as fire as it is, is a very manipulative song lol.
Every artist makes problematic music on some level but for some reason, it never gets called out when women do it.
For instance, I think it's weird that as a society, we have normalized women being violent towards men as a way of remedying emotional hurt by men.
There are songs/movies out there that validate that if a man breaks a woman's heart, it's okay for her to burn his house/car down or even throw s*** at him in a violent rage because her being emotionally hurt validates that. I loathe the saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" because that's the backbone of this entire ridiculous philosophy.
I don't like violence and I think the message about non-violence should go both ways. Men shouldn't put their hands on women and women shouldn't put their hands on men. We should all keep our hands to our damn selves but that's a discussion for another day.
Hip hop most popular among impressionable kids and has been for decades now, no teenager is looking up to “Rex Orange County” or whoever y’all want to mention.
But go on Tik tok or YouTube and you could find a million 10 year olds mimicking their favorite rappers and calling women b****es and thots among other things.
It is what it is but can’t pretend it doesn’t exist
Are we really pretending there won't be an assload of skeletons coming out in the coming years about famous rappers just like there were with rock stars in the 70s lol
Life comes at you fast when the hits stop rolling in
