Just because someone says something in a song doesn’t mean that’s what they believe, doesn’t mean you should take it exactly as it’s written, musical expression is not meant to be literal. ART IS NOT LITERA
My nigga what in the f***
If it's not what you believe, why say it at all. That ain't art you are just a douchebag
Crazy part is your sister probably knows all the words to that song and makes tiktoks to it
Yes I love her
Misogyny sells cause people like misogyny. That’s just the reality. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t. It’s an issue with humanity, not an issue with music.
you the new OP
f*** it i’m gonna get in some deep s*** if keep arguing here ima let the world rot i can’t save the game
Yes please relax :ariscared:
Just one form of rap music, don’t play it around them if you/they’re uncomfortable
S*** if the song hard as f*** imma still play it
Try to ignore the misogyny ur really gonna like this part coming up trust me
Always existing is a stretch
‘80s and early ‘90s East Coast rap was very female friendly
True but rap has been misogynistic as long as it’s been a mainstream juggernaut
underrated post
There has always been critics of rap’s misogyny. C. Dolores Tucker, bruh?
Misogyny sells cause people like misogyny. That’s just the reality. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t. It’s an issue with humanity, not an issue with music.
People don't want to play video games about pouring out soup for the homeless on Christmas, they want to kill mfs
True but rap has been misogynistic as long as it’s been a mainstream juggernaut
You could argue it’s what made it a juggernaut
That Chronic and Doggystyle double team in ‘93 changed the game
To the point where there was no positive s*** in rap within 2 years
Crazy part is your sister probably knows all the words to that song and makes tiktoks to it
🙄
Your honor speculation!!!
Hearsay
the dudes making it aren't going to stop unless the listeners stop supporting them
like the dude that wrote this article is supposedly against misogyny but is a fan of Quando Rondo
I think that tension between the raw appeal of rap music that is a reflection of the in times we live in, and the fact that an undeniable part of that appeal for many is living today's hypermasculine ideal vicariously through rappers that embody it
vs.
the desire to see more mainstream rap that imagines or embodies different, is something Andre should explore in something more longform.
He actually touches on this in this article, except he's kind of arguing against that kind of thinking?
The lack of consistency makes it hard to take this article very seriously, even though he makes some interesting observations towards the end
Crazy part is your sister probably knows all the words to that song and makes tiktoks to it
ay bro don't talk about his sister
Misogyny sells cause people like misogyny. That’s just the reality. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t. It’s an issue with humanity, not an issue with music.
You think we'll listen to misogyny if the song don't bang
People don't want to play video games about pouring out soup for the homeless on Christmas, they want to kill mfs
People always want to blame someone or something else for things like this when they really should be looking inside themselves. But self-reflection is hard for most
F***in’ weirdo
EHUWFUHWEOIFHWE I READ THAT LIKE 5 TIMES and was still like "why he say that"
You could argue it’s what made it a juggernaut
That Chronic and Doggystyle double team in ‘93 changed the game
To the point where there was no positive s*** in rap within 2 years
General attitudes have changed as well. Being a sexist shtihead was funny in the 90s but now people are recognizing that its f***ed up.
I’m saying the music isn’t perpetuating the lifestyle as much as people are acting like it is, these people were trapped in this lifestyle long before they could even understand rap lyrics
However I do believe that explicit lyrics about dogging women and killing niggas can lead ppl to believe that the lifestyle is normal
