at risk of sounding like a MRA manosphere grifter

if they’re putting cardi in top 20 then they’re pandering no doubt about it

ofc it’s not in any actual hip hop fans top 10 but i’m not mad at them giving props an album the average rolling stone audience might not know about when it comes to “must listen to hip hop albums” u feel what i’m sayin ?

Yes,it’s cool she’s getting props and she actually deserves to be on this list. They just overdid with her placements. If this list was worth a damn, she’d have two placements,Supa Dupa Fly would be in the Top 100’s with So Addictive probably at the very top(I’m talking 190-180’s).

But this list is confused propaganda at the end of the day. Missy Elliot would’ve gotten attention just for being on this list, but they had to overstate to very good albums.

  • Do you know how stupid you have to be to believe that Da Drought 3 is better than Illmatic

  • Been at work all day heated cause of this stupid f***ing list. Who tf made this s***????

  • Montero over Bandana?????? Cmon man

  • Jun 8, 2022

How is take care the only drake album worthy of being on this list? Smh

  • Jun 8, 2022

And f***ing montero is on here?

Which Drake albums belong in the top 200 in your opinion?

IYRTITL, NWTS. On impact maybe Take Care too.

The only good thing about this list is the broad definition of hip hop it's taking. Everything from M.I.A. and the Streets to Biggie to the Roots and Common to Ye and Wayne.

The type of hip hop Drake makes is a big part of the genre by this point. I don't think it's as good as It Takes a Nation but if you're going to pick a 2010s album that was a big mainstream pop moment you'd definitely pick NWTS, TC or IYRTITL.

It's not even a gender thing, there's other female artists who are more deserving of the top 20.
I like that there's more female rappers in the mainstream than there used to be. But even with all these big moments and stats I just don't think any of them are even close to surpassing what Missy and Lauryn did. If you count the Score, between them they have at least 6 albums that are better than anything Cardi's done.

lord willin that much higher than HHNF? disagree

Lord Willin has better singles because of Virginia and Grindin. But HHNF works so much better as an album and has their best rapping on

I didn't even know people saw Lord Willin as close to HHNF tbh

Just because it’s broad doesn’t mean it’s good though.

Cardi B being so high up the list is laughable.

  • honestly cardis album is one of the better rap albums of the past 5 years and deserves to be on the list. at 18 tho…..

thats what i been pointing out too

its because the rolling stone writers whose votes created this list are generally a mix of

    1) young writers of color they hired relatively recently to be less white-dominated

    and then

    2) the old white nerdy hip-hop heads who have been in music journalism since the 90s

so when they all vote to make the same list you get this bizarre thing

That makes the list pretty good

  • Jun 8, 2022

List goes out the window as soon as F&L or The Cool don’t make it at all

Cardi B isn't Drake though lol. She's had some genuinely big songs but she's always behaved like a personality, IG influencer first artist. Drake has always been about the music compared to her.

And he's also made some incredible songs. He's a weak album artist a lot of the time. But have to praise songs like Hold On We're Going Home, Feel No Ways, Passionfruit, Nice For What etc.

When it comes to pop rap he's done it better than anyone else this decade. That's why he deserves to be in a list like that. I think a list like this should be able to hold artists like Clipse or the Roots with the more mainstream rappers. In a way it's having both ends of the spectrum that makes it credible.

I like the mix of artists, I just think some of the picks are strange. As a Brit I wish they didn't include any UK picks instead of including Simz and the Streets. I like those two but it's nowhere near the peak of our scene

Drake absolutely belongs on the list 100%. I’m not doubting that. Take Care and NWTS should be guaranteed for top 200.
