Cheating has been happening since the beginning of time. Humanity hasnt really changed when it comes to that.

Monogamy is a construct to keep society stable but maybe not necessary if society has the precaution and people have the mutual understanding to not impegrante random people or spread stds since contraception exist.

The only issue with cheating is to break a commitment instead of just ending it beforehand. He should have just called "Ey about to hit something new. Sry gotta end it with you and the engagement blablabla" Unfortunatly humans are greedy and want both, the love and the lust for other women.
