  • How do people stomach this? How do 2 guys who made pretty good music for entire careers come together and make le epic tunes? Is it age? Success?

You must develop a tolerance for true coworker music

Tbh I don’t hear a ton of difference between Run The Jewels and any of the El-P albums after Fantastic Damage, so I’d say blame him

I cant believe the dude who made funcrusher and cold vein turned into making rap made exclusively to be put in commercials

I can see why you’d think that but I disagree

ISWYD sounds nothing like C4C and RTJ.

  • I like rtj but it's a step down from El-P's first 2 records imo

  • This is bad!

  • Mozumozu

i dont listen to the 2 anymore but it was def of "the time" and the era of the underground within the underground "hiphop culture war" with itself

i do think a lot of the beats are still unique and hard tho

Funny enough I think they got better with each release but I can definitely see the argument either way as well a the argument OP is making. It's def got reddit-tier dad rap written all over it. El's production is still insane imo

RTJ3 had some stuff I really liked on it prob my favorite of them but 4 was when I officially grew off them

If they knew what was good they would leave well enough alone

Nah their s*** was good don’t be a hater for no rzn

  • Not sure their music has aged very well. Also Mike high jacking it with his political views.

  • RAP Music might actually be their best collab though.

i think the biggest issue with rtj is that it overstayed it welcome and they kinda lost the plot with the motives and "point" at least audience wise

i think after the two album n the ep was all there is then it would be looked at more favorably in retrospect

2 is considered the best and the only one i hear in great regard still to this day

  • s*** used to slap when I was 16 but yeah I’m not a teenager anymore lmao

eh i think they were kinda aimless after 2 and lost a lot of the "edge" of the sound design in 1 n 2 n after 2 they became "reddit-core" (i think meow the jewles legit did this when it was originally a joke and a audience support goal but brought in the "lol randfom funny" crowd)

i will always respect them tho & they were impactful and popular in the underground world with 1 n 2 so i always will always admire too what it meant back then

  • This was always my fav RTJ & its mostly cuz Gangsta Boo made it actually enjoyable lol

Yup the first 2 definitely were more impactful overall but 3/4 were my personal favs. They're all pretty similar overall though. I don't think there was ever an "edge" to lose. El-P had shifted his production technique after 2007 to more 'epic', bass heavy production. Cold Vein and FanDam his best work on the boards

I like that the beats are unique and love el as a producer historically but how do you go from creating spaced out schizo alien beats (a top 5 beat to me)

To literal music for cod edits
