This guy was a nobody until he signed and released 3 albums with Columbia. Why does he talk as if he made it while being independent

  • Maximus

why do you even have a russ album on your itunes brother

Russ one of the best rappers in the game bar for bar and when examining the content of his music

And he can sing, makes the sad, moody s***.
He drops consistently, and even though his last full album was in 2020, he’s dropped at least 2-3 albums worth of songs since then

Why would I not support the artists I rock with this heavy?

I dont see whats wrong with selling bundles, people still spending the money (didnt know about only major labels being able to do them tho thats f***ed up)

they spend the money but its not rlly on the album. like if someone wants a cactus jack hat, they might be cool w paying $20 for it. what's rlly going on is some guy is buying a hat for $20, but by calling the hat's price $17 and throwing in a copy of the album for $3, some guy buying a hat now counts for album sales.

and it's not like dude is listening to the album more, likely he's just going to stream it anyways, like he would have done with no hat. but now he gets counted twice, for streams and for the purchase.

i mean if u can pull it off its just the smart thing to do, so im not gonna hate on it. it does basically count some ppl twice tho, so thats why ppl treat it like cheating.

He's still crying about this s***

This guy was a nobody until he signed and released 3 albums with Columbia. Why does he talk as if he made it while being independent

Because he signed after building a large fan base independently

Russ was already doing big shows and had an audience beforehand

They pumped up his singles but he was grinding for a long time and had already achieved a lot on his own
Then when the label relationship soured, he left.
His success is less owed to signing a deal or getting the right co-signs then just him making quality music and connecting with his audience at the right time

This the thrift shop guy? Yea idc bro.

    No
He’s the guy who made Best on Earth with BIA

  • Aug 30, 2023

Let’s wait and see which major artist will be the first that gets help from their label to pull this same ad off.

Artists can live comfortably and do shows with 1 thousand dedicated fans. You really think he'd be doing 40k at this point in his career had he not signed and released his at that point only commercially successful albums with a label?

It's great he a lot out of his label and left to become indie, not a dig at him at all. But the way this guy talks I just assumed he actually saw mainstream success without a label at all.

He's not after mainstream success but the ways Major industry players f*** over people who release on their own without the help of the big 3. Imagine selling 42k physicals alone but billboard and luminate (same company) takes away like 10k cause you went on IG and told your fans to buy it (this was after the week was over btw, so over the weekend someone high saw that and cut his sales count)

And yes considering he builds his fanbase without a label he would be doing 40k without a label like he's doing now, the Colombia deal did nothing for him fanbase wise tbh, only financial and more headaches with releasing music

In today’s era that 1000 dedicated fans is simply untrue

Even the cost of manufacturing things like clothing, doing consistent shows, and paying for promotion / marketing will be a heavy cost

The majority of independent artists need another stream of income in order to survive

Let alone keep their career going and expand their audience
