His framing this as if he has fans and they don't which is odd considering their relatively the same tier of artist from a sales perspective, with tory being quite a bit hotter right now.
ONLY from a "sales" perspective when accounting for the first few weeks but I bet has more gold and platinum songs than Tory AND can outsell a dababy/Tory Lanez tour by himself, he does arenas and is about to do stadiums with Ed Sheeran, that's what he means by fans. Fans stay long term

The point that I was getting at wasn't so much about Russ and his fans, as much as it's about his take on artists not being blackballed and how only your fanbase matters which simply is not true.

Zack From The SixI like Russ but this is absolute nonsense. You can get blackballed. Award shows refuse to invite people like Chris Brown. Radio can refuse to play your music and that counts a whole lot on the charts. Not being able to get playlisted on the popular playlists like RapCaviar is also something that hurts you. Don't forget the media too.

then why all his records that he drops every week flop?
The fact of the matter is, blackballing or not, without playlisting and radio support, you're going to have a hard time breaking through.
russ was never a huge artist to begin with plus he’s fully independent might be more concerned with feeding his base

Playlist placement probably operates similarly to radio placement from the olden days…so yeah being barred from playlists does matter if you are trying to find a greater commercial audience and would affect an artist’s exposure….but either way you would have your core fans. I don’t think anyone is arguing otherwise.

If his fans are true supporters then they will go to his artist profile and stream his music. It ain't hard. If an artist gotta rely on playlists to get their streams then what kinda fan base did they really build after all these years?
If people are interested in an artist then they will search them on their DSP. S*** takes less than a minute to do. Stop making excuses.
