caught this a few weeks back & liked it, didn’t see Drive My Car but this made me wanna go back through his films
the ending felt ambiguous, had an idea on what to takeaway generally but it was abrupt in a sorta confusing way

i know there's a big consensus on drive my car but this one was more my rhythm but felt like the same guiding hand so i think everyone should be happy, he's moving with a confident pace, this feels like an evolution for him. i haven't seen happy hour or his early early work though.

this is where it kind of lost me but i still love everything else about the film. it's just that this shows his writing weakness imo. it's where he feels the need to have some sort of metaphorical grand reveal moment. in this case, he's drawing a parallel between the dad and his daughter and a deer and her fawn. the film feels so restrained and patient and seemingly throws it all away in the last 15 minutes to make this grand gesture, and i get it and it's his style but it just makes me wish he didn't feel the need to do that.
