Known as the "Hungarian Janis Joplin" This woman had quite the musical evolution that most artists could dream of. From making UK inspired Teen Pop/Beat music to the Funk Rock grooves, her versatility is astonishing. Her voice quality changes over time but what remains is that warm, operatic tonality. Plus, the roots of her homeland tradition of Folk is present in each project.
To keep it in context, her time of activity was during the era of Eastern European communism. Although records support her first appearance on stage in 1963, her first nation wide appearance was on the long running televised Hungarian pop music competition show, Festival Of Dance Music(circa 1966). This appearance kicked off a career filled with versatility and experimentation. This approach to music was rather innovative. The fact in every release she reinvented herself speaks volumes to her artistry.
Cini, thanks to the rearrangement of Communist restrictions, was able to travel to England. This is where she met the Bee Gees and who eventually wrote songs on her earliest projects. However, as promising as it was, she would later return to Hungary and continue a healthy career in the 70s. Unfortunately, her career would dwindle in the 80s and end in obscurity with a tax fraud scandal. A scandal to where she was put in jail for a while. A shame how her career was forgotten as she could have been an international star.
For the new year! Special shout out to all my Hungarians and to an extent Eastern Europeans!
