Normally whenever an artist I loved passed away I couldn’t keep playing their music because s*** would just bum me out and I’ll be too sad to follow through but with D’Angelo I’m running up every single thing he did. His music is just too powerful.

Wish i could say the same.

This is the first time im lowkey depressed over an artist passing ngl.

retired poster but i have to say my piece for one of my true GOATs

D'Angelo was one of the main musicians who initally made me really respect musicianship when i was much younger, he was also the reason I picked the guitar back up and learned piano.
The combination of someone who was an elite music composer in the way that he was but also someone who had such a strong allegiance to hip hop was very important for me to see. Also.... despite all the incorrect reports he didn't get his drum feel or syncopation from Dilla, it was his own thing, he liked to drag the beat because it was akin to how he saw earlier hip hop producers lining up drum loops

Voodoo is definitely near the top of my all time albums list, The Root will eternally be one of my favourite songs ever.

Happy to have shared his music with others, bonded with people who also loved his music (it was like a secret society, if someone loves D'Angelo they have a strong chance of being a real one), sad when he had to cancel shows but still happy that i did get to see him I did

another one of my true GOATs lost to illness in their 50s, prince & DOOM,
even though his legacy is tied to the concept of perfection no matter the cost, also take his legacy as a chance to seize the day if possible as nothing is promised
given that he may have known about this in advance & since he was a gamer who enjoyed Rockstar's stuff, i hope they let him play an advance copy of GTA 6

i know some of y'all still remember that day late in 2014 when Red Bull Music Academy posted Sugah Daddy, make sure y'all do your due diligence, play his RBMA interview if you haven't play Questlove's too since he has the all the inside information such as how he almost got to play on Brown Sugar but was dismissive of 'an R&B guy given how some things in the genre were going', really cool story, them telepathically connecting after Questlove saw D was in the audience, called an audible to played a Prince Madhouse drum part because he knew that he would be able to communicate to D via what he could tell was clearly knowledge D held

(i typed this up before the page refreshed, alright we out again, rest in power, it stil doesn't feel real, especially waking up out of a nap to this news)

Correct. Dilla changed up his style after hearing Brown Sugar. People get it backwards all the time.
