The internet is a cruel place. I remember when i was younger getting into his music retroactively. At the time he had gone low and recluse and was dealing with things and headlines would pop up and it was unsavory. Online discourse was so f***ed up. And he just kept his head low.

You started getting scarce leaks like an early version “Really Love” tagged with “this is a Questlove exclusive”, “Black Hole Sun”(Cover) - sounded like it was unearthed from another period of time but so magical, and a very left field “Glass Mountain Top” feature on Mark Ronson’s album. He lets out this crazy f***ing belt on that song and it’s such a beautifully written song if you really listen to it! Man it’s like a genius convincing himself to get through whatever it was he was going through after Voodoo. It’s such a beautiful song on a random Mark Robson album.

I’m so glad he got out of that hole and dropped Black Messiah and cemented his genius after all the bullshit. “If you’re wondering about the shape I’m in, I hope it ain’t my abdomen that you’re referring to.” How his career and personal story arch landed with Black Messiah is such a happy story to me man.
