I don't see how using it to jokingly point out how something can be taken out of its proper context and seem gay makes it homophobic at all. Like, nothing about it makes it seem anti-homosexual, nor does it even imply "gay is wrong". It's just elementary level "humor".

    Same with "pause".

there's something inherently anti-homosexual by making the butt of a joke be "haha you're gay" "haha that's gay" because the root of that is that being gay is wrong, bad, weird, etc.

that being said i don't really give a s*** if people do it because there are more things to worry about, it's just an eyeroll because most people don't even think about it or consider it that way

if the butt of a joke is "haha, this is funny because of identity(gender, race, sexual orientation)" then there's something inherently anti-identity about whatever you're saying, regardless of your intention

"Haha that man looking sus af"

"Saw this thread and just had to say it. And yes, context matters. Its not homophopic if its used in the context of the game Among Us. But if you use sus to underline or pinpoint unintentional homosexual implications in a rap bar or someones wording, than it kinda feels homophobic. It always implies that there is something wrong with homosexuality."

"The f*** did you call me? Did you just disrespect me? I beat up wild zebras that disrespect me, I'll f***ing kill you b****."

I just don't agree with the root being gay is wrong/weird I guess.

Purposely misinterpreting context for an alternative meaning has always just been that without a deeper meaning to me. It can be done with any topic really.

    You don't agree?

Why do you think "gay" was so predominantly used (and is still used today, but a little less so) as a pejorative?

Why would a description of somebody's sexual orientation be used as an insult? Why would it be used to replace calling something lame, stupid, dumb, etc etc.

The person using gay as a pejorative may not necessarily be homophobic themselves, but that is far and away the root of using gay as a pejorative. And, by extension, having the punchline of a joke being "haha gay"

That's the thing though, I don't think it's an insult to skew words for a funny alternative. It's also easier to take that angle because of how people unintentionally set themselves up.

You could make the same jokes with a straight person, an overweight person, a drunk person, etc. It's mostly just fishing for the right time.

So if I were making jokes that have punchlines which can be reduced down to:

"Haha, you're a woman", "Haha, you're asian", "Haha, you're black", "Haha, you're mexican",

You see no problem with this? Or anybody doing these jokes?
