While we still received some heavy bar influenced works, drake by no means turned down his multi genre take to music as early as the next album of ML and as lately as the album you yourself appreciate HNVM.. he even goes into more new sounds with IMY2 betrayal IDGAF another late night etc..
Point being drake will always make music some ppl like and other ppl dislike and he's not going to change his approach for anyone, trying and failing (although he rarely fails) as he pleases 🤷🏾♂️
I don’t think Joe’s critique was aimed at the genre shifting but more so how Drake went about it, which is still my critique with a lot of his work. It’s the substance that Joe and a lot of music heads complain about with Drake’s recentloutput as an artist versus when he was starting. He would always tap into different genres but the soul and level of perfection was there and I cannot say the same for a lot of Views, Scorpion, CLB and some of FATD.
But again, Drake saw how successful the formula of Views was and decided to continue that and it’s definite benefited him heavy so I can’t sit here and say that he was 100% wrong for that cause mfs gotta eat lol
