I don't know for sure because I am not an anthropologist or scientist or anything of that sort. However, I have a few ideas. We may have had a social advantage over them and were better at cooperating amongst ourselves which would make us better at hunting. We may have also reproduced at a greater rate which would leave less for other species. We may also have just been more ruthless and warlike and slowly wiped them out.
