A thread for talking about, sharing, and reviewing screenplays. Haven't read one before? Give it a try! It might give a second life to a film you love. It's an art in itself and brisker than a novel.

In I read a lot of screenplays. Black list is a good place to read upcoming movies that haven’t been picked up yet. It’s where “Air” originally started before Affleck & Damon got ahold of it
They also have a Kanye biopic about the creation of College Dropout in there but it’s kinda corny lol

I put a whole Google Drive of them in the OP. Gonna read Galahad from 2008 next. It's the screenplay that George RR Martin read to put Condal in charge of House of the Dragon.

Interesting because I feel like a lot of horror stuff is launched by visual gimmicks and shorts
Finished Galahad by Ryan Condal. What a hefty script! S*** is close to 30k words.
I think my favorite part is the stretch where a fugitive is loose in the walls of the castle. Camelot is filled with secret passages and the like. They try to flush him out by burning part of it and releasing wild animals into it. Really stupid, amazing idea.
The ending is perfect. A perfect ending. Phenomenal voice over and montage. I wish I liked House of the Dragon more. I can see why George RR Martin liked this guy. He really kills his darlings on a whim. Nothing sacred about Camelot in this one.

Easily the best resource for finding screenplays that I use. If it leaked they have it. Plus they usually have multiple drafts of scripts, unproduced scripts, every black list script etc. There’s been alotta times I haven’t been able to find a screenplay on google/Reddit but they’ll have it there.

Anyone have a good podcast for screenplay discussion or tips?
Yup I got plenty saved:
Screenwriting life (Meg LeFauve she just wrote Inside out 2)
Bulletproof screenplay (this one is pretty popular he interviews a lot of screenwriters who break down their process)
Script apart
How I write
Script notes (Craig mazin)
Cine-files (this is more so films being dissected and broken down)

This is probably one of the best breakdowns I’ve seen from an established writer—Craig Mazin.
He breaks down how structure works and uses Finding Nemo as an example and why each scene works

Since you like Jeff Nichols:

There’s a 30 minute audio clip there where he breaks down his process. I also purchased a masterclass video from him where he goes more in depth into his process. Lemme know if you interested in that.

Love listening to these while working out. Helps me brainstorm ideas and motivates me to write after my workout

Ouuu ima try that. I use to listen during work when I had a warehouse job but now I work on phones so that’s gone out the window. Never thought to listen during workouts
@twitch found an example of Cameron just writing his in his novella/treatment style

Some noticeable differences as well.

We’re only as good as the obscurity of the references we steal from.
Take stuff you like and jam it all together.

You ever watch a movie or show then the story goes a different direction than you expected? And the direction they went might’ve still ended up being good but you’re like damn if it went the way I thought it was then this could’ve happened which would’ve led to this and so on
Change the characters and set up that led to that moment and you at least got an idea to build on
There’s other ways of course but that’s one way to start
