There is truth to this sentiment. But it’s in part bc more openly sexualized women are given more of a platform for their music. Plenty of talented female rappers go overlooked, it’s the same way male rap is more likely to be popular if it’s grimy and crime-related. America has a historical fascination with Black men as violent and Black women as overly sexualized and this is what a mainstream white audience is primed to gravitate toward.

Of course, Black ppl and other races are also unconsciously aware of this phenomenon. And it is also true that women in general are sexualized. Black women have just historically been associated w overt sexuality and more negative stereotypes so a Black woman (especially dark skinned) isn’t going to get a mainstream label’s attention if she got smart/hip bars. Many will ask, “where’s the s***appeal?” And then an audience, conditioned to what is familiar, will perhaps wonder the same question in a less conscious manner.
